SONGS 6 and 7
Two love songs
A. MANY TIMES I HAVE LOVED
This is what in Japan we called a “lost love song”. I was probably in my early 20s when I wrote it.
Many times I have loved and every time you have not
You who seemed so soft and so free
Many times I have hoped and every time you got the rope
But even so, I’ll go on thinking of you
And I’ve got reason to believe that unless we plant a seed
Sun will never shine tomorrow
But we walk on different streets just so that we’ll never meet
Even though we both know our game means sorrow
Chorus
No we can’t go on living without loving too
And we can’t go on fearing the words “I love you”
And some think love is a thing that is bought like a ring
And its won by the ones who are charming
Me I love what I know and I know that love can grow
Like two roses conceived in the winter
And yes I love your love of trees and I ask you love me please
For a reason that is to your liking
And don’t search high and don’t search low, you’ve got to love what you can know
And in time there’ll be a fine flower garden
B. MY LADY’S A WILD FLYING DOVE (Tom Paxton)
This is one of the few non original songs I have done. I contacted the office handling the copyright for the song and said I would have to pay some huge sum to receive the rights to record it. Because I had no money, I wrote to Tom himself and he said ”no problem-feel free to record it”.
Some ladies are foolish, some ladies are gay
Some ladies are comely, some live while they may
CHORUS
My lady’s a wild flying dove, my lady is wine
She whispers each evening she’s mine, mine, mine
She likes pretty pictures, she loves singing birds
She’ll watch them for hours, but I see only her
She tells me learning how full her cup can be
She asks me to help her, but I know she’s helping me
